Millbury Little League recently finished hosting the Massachusetts Little League Championships. It was the culmination of more than a year’s worth of work. As veteran Little League volunteers from Central Mass, we were thrilled when Millbury was chosen; we were even more impressed with the fruits of their labor.

It was evident, during the tournament, that the town of Millbury rallied around its Little League to host what was, by all accounts, one of the most professional and classy tournaments of all time. The town administrator, Board of Selectmen, police and fire chiefs, and DPW all participated to make the event a success. In fact, none of us can remember a Little League tournament where the police chief could be found at the ballfield, nearly every night until 11 O’clock, making sure the event went smoothly or where the fire chief volunteered to drive shuttle buses. The Millbury DPW and the Recreation departments made the field shine even after a deluge of rain! They made it, for all the Little Leaguers who played, a field of dreams. John O’Brien, the longtime president of Millbury LL led a cadre of volunteers who proudly donned Millbury maroon; they spent countless hours to prepare and administer a flawless tournament. You all made Millbury Little League, the Town of Millbury, and all of Central Massachusetts proud. Take a bow, friends, you provided these players with a lifetime of memories, and it was truly inspirational!
